The Story of Our Signature Cable

The Story of Our Signature Cable

Posted by Caroline Teakle on

From a single best-selling pullover in 2018 to a cable pattern that now runs through our entire range, this is the story of the design that defines Maxted. If you'd like to read more about how it all began, or the history of cable knitwear more broadly, we've written about both.

2018

Our debut collection launched with just six styles, and the original cable pullover quickly became a best-seller. Later that season, we introduced it in pink and khaki, the first signs of colour in our range.

The following year, the cable returned as a cardigan. We were still playing it safe with colour, keeping to the classics, but the texture and craftsmanship continued to define our knitwear.

The cable evolved into the Bracken Rollneck, another best-seller that became a winter staple. This was also the year we began working with influencers, helping our small brand reach more of you who shared our love for beautiful knitwear.

2021

We elevated the range by introducing 100% Australian Merino Wool, a milestone that truly reflected our commitment to quality. Our best-selling pullover was reimagined in this luxurious yarn.

Brogan Kate shot the collection at her home in Tasmania during lockdown, capturing the warmth and authenticity that define Maxted.

This was also the first time we introduced bold colour and began working with Sarcha, marking a new creative chapter.

2022

Our Merino styles were a huge success, and we were thrilled to see how much our customers valued this elevated yarn. That year, we shot with Kirsten Stanley in Barwon Heads, navigating lockdown rules but embracing creativity and community wherever we could.

2023

The cable story continued with a new interpretation; we reimagined the pullover into a vest. We shot the collection at The Wensley, a dream location and holiday retreat that felt like a natural fit for the brand and reflected how far we’d come.

The next evolution was the Grandpa Cardigan, a natural fit for Maxted and an instant favourite. We photographed this collection on a private beach in New Zealand, one of our most beautiful shoots to date.

2025

This year saw the introduction of Rust to our 100% Merino range; it sold out almost immediately, but don’t worry, it’s already on reorder for next year.

New this season, we’ve introduced three new styles featuring our signature cable: the Sleeveless Rollneck, the Autumn Merino Rollneck, and the Avery Cable Vest. And of course, we’ve also restocked our best-selling Merino Soft Touch Cable Pullover. It’s the next chapter in our cable story, and we hope you’ll love it just as much as the ones that came before.
