Some of favourite movies happen to have some key knitwear references. I'm sure you'll recognise, some if not all of them. So, let's dive in.
Clueless and Cher's famous Knitwear
I was a Britney Murphy fan, having first come across her in Clueless. This button down cardigan look, her character Tai wears, is after Cher gives her a make over. That scene is iconic, and so is this knitwear look. A simple button down with a tartan mini-skirt. It's "Totally Rufus".
Cher herself created a timeless look and nailed the knit trend we will be talking about next season: the red knit vest. Paired, in this scene, over a crisp Oxford shirt and ANOTHER tartan mini skirt!
House of Gucci Knitwear
That Cable jumper!!! Lady Gaga and Adam Driver star in "House of Gucci". And the costume designers nailed it with this classic ivory cable roll neck. It optimises the late seventies, on the cusp of the 80s, and we love it.
I'm putting this on my list to rewatch again
Knitwear in the Devil Wears Prada
Andi from The Devil Wears Prada proves that it's brains you need to work in the fashion industry. There was a period of my career (I won't say when) when I watched this movie every Sunday night to make sure I knew my job wasn't that bad before Monday morning!
I love Andi's classic black rollneck. It's a timeless piece.
Breakfast at Tiffany's - Audrey's Knitwear
Audrey Hepburn's playful character, Holly Golightlyn, in "Breakfast at Tiffany's", fills my heart with happiness. Her character's energy is infectious. Her "at home" look features a roll neck with raglan sleeves.
Cameron Diaz's Knitwear in The Holiday
Finally, it's Cameron Diaz in the Holiday. This movie is your definitive 'white Christmas', set in the snowy British countryside and featuring multiple knitwear looks. Plus peak Jude Law.
LA's Amanda adapts to the English country winter with a carefully curated collection of knitwear. Including this classic Ivory roll neck.
