Moving to the other side of the world, running a business, and having two young children has turned my life around. The organisational and logistical demands it has placed on us, as a family, are heavy. Something we have had to adapt to and learn to juggle.

In the process, I have learned:

  • I need more time
  • I don't like cutting corners

So, here are some tips and life hacks that have worked for me (as a successful fashion business owner).

My 6 Top Tips for handling a young family, a business, and a life of your own...

1) Get Up before 6 am

I like to be out the door by 6 am. Starting the day early is critical. It's time to exercise and get some much-needed personal space. That alone time gives me clarity on what is ahead. During these moments, I consider hurdles that might be heading my way—whether for Maxted as a business or in our family. This quiet time allows me to plan ahead.

Typically, I walk the dog as the sun rises. I can make international calls that are needed before the other side of the world goes to sleep. I leave voice notes or just take in the moment, enjoying the quiet, contemplative absence of life's noises and a bit of nature.

I feel ahead of the game, not chasing time.

2) Never Go to the Supermarket

Supermarkets suck hours out of my week. Deliveries and click-and-collect are absolute game-changers. I use an app for the most efficient use of my time.

3) Streamline Your Clothes Washing

We have three washing baskets in our household, and everyone in the family throws their washing into the corresponding basket: white, colours, and darks.

When a basket is full, we wash it. We don’t double-handle in this house!

4) Voice Notes

Friends are important, but who has time to text? Voice notes are a way to share your love and get messages out quickly.

5) Subscribe Where Possible

I have a coffee subscription and a Who Gives a Crap subscription. It's game-changing. I don't have to run around and get what I need. It just turns up!

Other subscriptions that could benefit your household:

  • Disney Plus, Netflix, etc
  • Cleaning service
  • Cloud storage for all your family memories and photos
  • Local Coffee subcription

6) Robot Lawn Mower

In our house, there are zero arguments about cutting the lawn, now! And we don’t lose precious weekend time as a family.

This was one of our best investments—and they don’t cost $1000s anymore. It's been so good we are looking at a Robot vacuum cleaner!
