If I had to select one of my favourite styles from this collection, it would be hard, but it would have to be the Button Down Cardigan. Its versatile, transeasonal, and it's an affordable contemporary piece. It's that additional piece that can be layered into a multitude of looks.

I want to showcase how we have styled two of our Button Down Cardigans in this season's shoots to show you how to mix and match these looks.

This is our Chloe Cardigan in Oat Twist - in the photoshoot we styled our model with no top underneath as we didn't want to detract from the cardigan. The cardigan works well as a top and can be tucked in to denim.

what to wear with a button down

For an every-day casual look, we have selected vintage Levi's (Scout for Vintage), a white ribbed tank from Witchery, black and white Converse and a leather jacket from Ena Pely - all wardrobe staples.

If you don't feel comfortable wearing just a ribbed tank underneath (I often don't) just remember you don't need to take your cardigan off, it's a layering piece that can make you feel, and look, great.

You could also choose a black ribbed tank instead of white, whatever you feel most comfortable in.

This is our Elise Cardigan in Camel styled with black pants from Zara to create a more elevated look.

For this elevated look, we let all the colour tones talk to each other - camels and neutrals, then to black. They are all in the same family. We added texture with a suede boot or strappy sandal and a hint of lace on the cami.

To show you how all these items can mix and match I've created the below style boards.

Just by switching a tailored black pant in to an everyday casual ensemble creates a really clean look, that could be used from day to night. I'd love to see a really fun accessory with this look too like a small bag in a pop colour, maybe orange.

Here again, you can see by wearing mid blue jeans with the Camel Elise cardigan you can create a whole new look. It's important that all the pieces you put in your wardrobe work overtime for you, each talking to the other.

This is why we think the button down cardigan is a great wardrobe essential.
