Podcasts are a great way to relax, decompress and get through my chores. I wanted to share some of my current favourite podcasts; one of the best things about owning a business is getting to know your customers and then me getting to know you.
I know when I'm choosing brands to spend my hard-earned money with, I like to feel a chemistry with them. Where possible, I always shop locally and independent, and getting a feel for the owners behind a brand is a part of that. I guess you could call this a little insight into me: Caroline - The Owner and Designer behind Maxted.
1. Pop Culture Parenting
Dr Billy (a developmental paediatrician) @drbillygarvey and Nick (a developing parent) talk strategies to support kids using iconic 80s & 90s movies
Nick and Billy are my parenting compasses; I love how Billy talks about the' Beautiful Children' that he works with in the clinic but also brings it back to his own real-life parenting struggles. Chats between two best friends and role plays for real clarity around tough subjects. These guys are amazing and a pure gift. Oh, and the added element of bringing all back to discussing movies, is genius!
Favourite Episode: Big Feelings reflection (part 1)
2. Fearne Cotton - Happy Place
If you grew up in the UK, through the 00s, you grew up with Fearne. She was there at 7 am on kids' TV and then moved to present prime-time TV and radio. In her podcast she has been really raw and honest about her struggles and panic attacks. She has taken that energy to create a safe space to interview a wide range of well-known names, and talk to them about the real issues, and help you find your lust for life.
Favourite episode - Ella Mills
3. Beyond the Bump
Sophie and Jade helped me transition into motherhood: the birth stories, colicky babies, and potty training. They share so many interesting interviews with specialists in their field. They also made me laugh. Jade's camping trip helped me realise that we are all going through it!
My favourite episode is "How can we raise our girls to like themselves?"
4. Shameless
The pop culturing podcast for smart people who love dumb stuff.
It feels a bit like you're getting all the gossip on a particular subject that you never knew you wanted or needed. It's a great waste of time and escapism.
Favourite episode: Creating the Spice Girls
5. The Spill
These are for a quick 20-30 min car journey or winding down at night. I guess it's a way of getting the "tea". I love the reviews for films or Netflix shows. Recently, I was shocked to hear all about the strange situations surrounding Brittany Murphy's death. I knew some of it, but these guys really do their research.
Big Brittany Murphy fan here: from Clueless to 8 Mile. She was a talent that is missed. We've done a write up on classic movie knitwear including a topic on Clueless fashion, here.
